Turbocharger Installation Checklist

Before installation

Diagnose and fix the cause of the old turbocharger failure (engine-related issues)
Compare the turbocharger model with engine specifications and the turbocharger manufacturer’s part number
Check proper engine cooling
Clean the oil pan and oil strainer
Check oil supply, ensure the turbocharger oil return line is clean
Intake, supply air, and exhaust system:
Check the catalyst and particulate filter. A blocked DPF will cause premature turbocharger failure
Clean any contamination from foreign objects or fluids and fix the root cause
Clean the intercooler and intake pipes
For water-cooled turbochargers, check coolant flow
Tighten fasteners according to engine and vehicle manufacturer specifications
Ensure flanges and threads are free of damage, debris, and wear
Use only new gaskets
Replace engine oil, oil filters, and air filters according to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.

During installation

Before installing the oil feed line, the turbocharger must be filled with fresh engine oil through the oil inlet while gently rotating the rotor by hand.
Handle carefully. Use tools and equipment specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

After installation

Idle engine for about 120 seconds after startup
During this time: check all connections (air, exhaust, water, and oil) for fastening, sealing, and leaks
Monitor oil pressure
After 20 hours of operation or 1000 km, recheck all relevant connections for fastening, sealing, and leaks

Important note for repair workshops!

The turbocharger may only be installed by qualified personnel in RAR-authorized workshops.

Incorrect installation, use, or operation of the turbocharger, or modifications to it, may cause damage to the turbocharger and the engine.

The manufacturer’s specifications, as well as installation and startup instructions, must be followed. No warranty claims will be accepted for material defects if a turbocharger that does not meet engine specifications is installed, or if installation and mounting instructions have not been followed. Visible defects must be reported immediately.
